Samsung profit surges 30% in Q3 on strong memory chip demand
"This year, the DRAM market has experienced a series of supply shortages, starting with HBM and extending to both legacy and newer, general-purpose products," said Counterpoint research director MS Hwang in a note on Monday, referring to advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, critical for AI computing.
However, Hwang said that Samsung faces challenges in developing HBM even though the company appears to have achieved good results with HBM3e shipments to Nvidia recently.
"The volume impact remains limited. To regain its previous market leadership, Samsung needs to carry this momentum into its next-generation product, HBM4," he said.
