Total revenues for MicroLED displays increased 150% YoY in 2025, according to the latest edition of Counterpoint Research’s MicroLED Display Technology and Market Outlook Report. The growth was supported by the commercial launch of several AR smart glasses with MicroLED light engines, resulting in a surge in shipments. AR glasses captured 58% of MicroLED revenues, making this the largest segment in 2025.
In TVs and wearables, MicroLED remains a niche technology that cannot yet compete on cost with LCD or OLED. In both segments, the premium pricing of MicroLED products is justified by the superior brightness, excellent contrast and the promise of a longer lifetime than OLED. The successful launch of the Garmin fēnix 8 Pro, the first MicroLED smartwatch, has been a positive sign for the supply chain and shows that panel maker AUO is able to meet OEMs’ requirements.
Associate Director Guillaume Chansin said, “Two years ago, Apple’s decision to cancel the mass production of MicroLED panels sent a shockwave across the industry. After a period of consolidation, the remaining players are now proving that MicroLED still has a future. The focus is less on volume and more on value proposition and differentiation.”
MicroLED Display Revenue Share by Application

In 2026, the TV segment is expected to capture the largest share of revenues. Samsung has been the champion of MicroLED TVs for several years but now faces competition from Chinese brands TCL and Hisense. While the competition is expected to drive prices down and increase sales, MicroLED TVs will continue to be positioned in a price band much higher than OLED and MiniLED TVs.
Panels for automotive applications are also expected to begin shipping in 2026, taking a 2% share of revenues. MicroLED offers unique design possibilities and better reliability than OLED. Panel makers have already demonstrated proof of concepts based on transparent MicroLED displays or high-brightness head-up displays (HUD).
