Three Mega Technology Deals Set Tone for the Ecosystem in 2022 & Beyond
Overview:
The technology sector has been the main winner during the COVID-19 pandemic, with revenue generation, customer demand and market capitalization all hitting unprecedented levels for many large companies. Armed with enormous financial and technological resources, large companies are becoming hungrier to spread their areas of expertise across various fronts, and one of the methods is through vertical mergers. The past few years have also seen tectonic shifts in domestic and international politics. Rather than sticking to traditional areas of purview like consumer protection and antitrust rules, regulators, lawmakers and even the general public have expanded their areas of scrutiny of technology companies — from national security and supply chain resiliency to the competitive and innovation environment. The differing outcomes of the three proposed mergers discussed in this report reflect this changing landscape.
