Global OLED Market Faces Smartphone Headwinds as IT OLED Applications Drive Growth in 2026

July 14, 2026

Global OLED panel shipments are projected to decline 2% YoY in 2026 to 1.1 billion units, following a 3% YoY increase in 2025, according to Counterpoint Research’s latest OLED Shipment Report. The slowdown reflects a 4% YoY decline in smartphone OLED panel shipments and flat OLED TV demand, as persistent memory inflation and higher component costs continue to pressure OEM production plans and consumer demand.

Despite weakness in smartphones, IT OLED applications will remain the industry’s primary growth engine in 2026:

  • OLED notebook PCs: +50% YoY, driven by Apple's transition to OLED MacBook Pro models and continued premium AI PC adoption.
  • OLED monitors: +60% YoY, supported by accelerating demand for gaming and premium productivity displays.
  • OLED tablets: +8% YoY, led by broader premium tablet adoption.
  • Automotive OLED: Growth is still expected, although forecasts have been moderated due to component cost pressures and softer vehicle production.

2026 Panel Supplier Outlook

  • Samsung Display (SDC): Expected to remain the market leader with a 41% revenue share (down from 43% in 2025), as smartphone weakness is partially offset by strong monitor growth.
  • LG Displays (LGD): Revenue share is projected to decline to 18% (from 22%) following a 21% YoY decline in unit shipments, despite growth in monitors, notebook PCs and TVs.
  • BOE: Revenue share is forecast to decrease to 12% (from 13%), reflecting softer smartphone demand.
  • Visionox: Revenue share is projected to increase to 6% (from 5%), supported by continued customer diversification despite lower smartphone and notebook panel volumes.
  • Tianma: Revenue share is expected to decline to 5% (from 6%), primarily due to a sharp contraction in smartwatch panel shipments.
  • China Star: Revenue share is forecast to decrease to 5% (from 6%), reflecting continued weakness in smartphone panel demand.

Analyst takeaway

2026 marks a transition year for the OLED industry. While smartphones, the largest OLED application, are entering a period of slower growth due to memory and component cost inflation and maturing demand, OLED adoption across IT devices is accelerating rapidly. Apple's OLED MacBook roadmap, AI PC premiumization, and strong demand for OLED monitors are reshaping the industry's growth profile. As a result, OLED suppliers with diversified exposure to IT applications will be better positioned than those that remain heavily dependent on smartphones.
