Automotive CIDs Total Area Increased 19% in 2025 Driven by Larger Display Sizes

Total automotive CID area grew 19% YoY in 2025 as displays continued to increase in size.
CIDs larger than 20” experienced the fastest growth, driven by demand in China.
LCD remained the dominant technology while OLED and MiniLED gained market share.
Automakers are now focusing on cutting costs while facing new requirements to reduce reliance on touchscreens.

Automotive center information displays (CIDs) continued to increase in size in 2025, according to Counterpoint’s Automotive Display Shipment report and Global Passenger Vehicle Infotainment Market Insight report. Based on sales of passenger vehicles, the share of CIDs measuring 15” to 20” increased to 11% in 2025 from 7% in 2024. The 10” to 15” size range remained the most common, with its share increasing to 60% in 2025 from 54% in 2024. Most Digital Instrument Clusters (DICs) were also based on displays in the 10” to 15” range.
While the volume of CIDs larger than 20” remained limited, they experienced the fastest growth. Chinese automakers have been the front runners in this segment, with demand for larger CIDs driven by features like navigation, entertainment and gaming, as well as consumer expectations for large displays.
The increasing display size, combined with growing vehicles sales, results in a 19% YoY increase in total CID area for 2025. LCD remained by far the dominant technology for automotive CIDs as it benefited from a mature supply chain with large capacity. Although OLED gained market share, it only represented less than 2% of CID area in 2025. MiniLED LCD’s share also increased, following OLED.
According to Associate Director Guillaume Chansin, “OLED is positioned as a premium display technology that offers not only excellent contrast but also unique designs, as exemplified by the upcoming Ferrari Luce. However, MiniLED LCD is seen as a more affordable alternative to OLED and is available from all the key LCD suppliers.”
The outlook for 2026 and beyond involves some challenges as automakers are changing their product roadmaps so they include fewer battery electric vehicles and more plug-in and other hybrid models, focusing on cutting costs. There are also new draft regulations in China from that country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and new safety testing standards in Europe from the regional European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) to mandate the inclusion of physical controls and reduce reliance on touchscreens.
