Qualcomm Technologies unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 mobile platform during the Snapdragon Summit 2026 held in Maui on September 22-24. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform sets a new benchmark for mobile computing that propels smartphones into the Agentic AI era, offering faster device performance capabilities. The platform features Qualcomm’s newest self-designed Oryon cores, enabling 13% faster CPU performance and 37% greater efficiency compared to the previous generation.

Qualcomm has dominated the global Android premium smartphone SoC market, although its share is expected to decline in 2026. According to Counterpoint Research’s Global Smartphone SoC Forecast Tracker by Vendor and Node, 2026, Qualcomm’s share in the segment is expected to decline from 58% in 2025 to 50% in 2026. The decline will largely be driven by Samsung’s use of its in-house Exynos 2600 SoC in the Samsung Galaxy S26 series. Besides, the global smartphone SoC market is facing challenges due to the ongoing memory crisis, which has had a major impact on the entry- and mid-tier smartphones, but the premium segment is also not immune from the impact. At the same time, the expected ASP of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will be double-digit percentage higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
