Lenovo’s Aura Edition and Qira Takes the Stage at CES 2026

January 15, 2026
  • Lenovo is repositioning itself from a PC hardware vendor into an AI experience platform company. With the launch of Qira and the Aura Edition portfolio, the company is signaling its intent to own the AI layer across PCs, smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
  • Hybrid AI is now the default architecture. Lenovo’s system level AI approach mirrors a broader industry shift toward combining on device inference with cloud-based reasoning and services.
  • The AI PC is being redefined by software, not just silicon. While Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 delivers up to 50 TOPS of NPU performance, Lenovo’s messaging has pivoted toward ambient, agentic AI experiences.
  • Repairability and sustainability are emerging as competitive differentiators. Lenovo’s new Space Frame architecture and 9/10 iFixit score reflect a broader move toward longevity and serviceability in premium business laptops.

From AI features to AI platform: Why Qira matters

At CES 2026, Lenovo turned its Tech World keynote at the Sphere in Las Vegas into a statement about the future of personal computing. The electric and exciting keynote featured product announcements, and key leaders in the tech industry like Jensen Huang (NVIDIA) and Lisa Su (AMD). The company’s biggest announcement was Qira, a cross-device AI agent designed to operate across PCs, smartphones, tablets, and wearables which Lenovo calls a “Personal Ambient Intelligence System.”

With Qira, Lenovo is moving beyond the app-centric AI model. Instead of requiring users to open ChatGPT, Copilot, or another assistant, Qira is embedded directly into the operating system. It is designed to work in the background, acting on behalf of the user. It is an “AI super agent”.

Core capabilities include:

  • Catch Me Up for summarizing meetings and conversations across devices
  • Write For Me for drafting context aware messages and documents
  • Pay Attention for live transcription and translation
  • Next Move for proactive suggestions based on calendars and documents

Qira runs on a hybrid AI architecture. Latency and privacy sensitive inference runs locally on device via NPUs, while heavier reasoning and third-party integrations are handled in the cloud. This hybrid model is quickly becoming the standard blueprint across the AI PC ecosystem.

Lenovo is also building a strong partner layer around Qira, with integrations from Microsoft (Windows Foundry and Azure), Stability AI for on device image generation, Notion, Perplexity, and Expedia Group. Qira will begin rolling out on select Lenovo devices in Q1 2026, with Motorola devices to follow.

The Aura Edition portfolio: Software-led AI PCs

The Aura Edition brand represents Lenovo’s premium devices co-engineered with Intel and powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (“Panther Lake”) processors with NPUs capable of up to 50 TOPS.

Rather than focusing purely on hardware specifications, Aura Edition devices are positioned around software-led intelligence.

Core features include:
-Smart Modes for automatic system adaptation
-Smart Share for tap to transfer media
-Smart Care for AI-assisted troubleshooting

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 Aura Edition debuts Lenovo’s new Space Frame internal architecture. Components are mounted on both sides of a magnesium frame, improving cooling for sustained performance while dramatically improving serviceability.

The battery, keyboard, USB ports, speakers, and fans can all be replaced as individual modules. iFixit scored a 9 out of 10, making it the most repairable ultraportable ThinkPad Lenovo has ever shipped. The chassis uses up to 90% recycled magnesium and 75% recycled aluminum.

Other key launches include:

  • ThinkPad X9 15p Aura Edition- a new 15.3 inch creator laptop with a 2.8K OLED display.
  • Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition- with an optional RTX 5070 GPU and a 3.2K tandem OLED display capable of reaching 1600 nits peak brightness.

What this means for the AI PC ecosystem

  • Hybrid AI is becoming the default architecture. On-device NPUs handle real-time and privacy-sensitive workloads, while cloud infrastructure handles large-scale reasoning and integrations.
  • System-level AI is replacing app-based assistants. The shift toward agentic AI represents a new phase of human computer interaction.
  • Sustainability and repairability are becoming premium features. As enterprises extend refresh cycles, serviceability and longevity are becoming important to customers.
  • Platform ownership is the next competitive battleground. The AI PC era will be shaped not just by who builds the best chips, but by who owns the user experience layer.

Analyst takeaways

  • Lenovo’s CES 2026 showcase marks a transition from AI PC hardware vendor to hybrid AI platform leader. The company is attempting to own both the local AI experience through Qira and enterprise AI infrastructure through a new NVIDIA partnership focused on gigawatt-scale AI cloud data centers and inference-optimized servers.
  • Lenovo’s breadth across PCs, smartphones, and enterprise infrastructure gives it a cross-device distribution channel few OEMs can match. The hybrid local/cloud approach is aligned with real-world constraints around latency, privacy, and cost.
  • Qira’s long-term success will depend on trust. Transparency around data handling, clear action logs and admin controls will be vital for enterprise adoption.
  • The 2026-2027 period will determine whether Qira becomes a defining AI platform.
