2026 Display Equipment Spending to Rise 53% YoY, Driven by G8.7 IT OLED Investments

Counterpoint Research has expanded its global display capex outlook period from 2028 to 2030, OLED spending is expected to account for 76% of total global display equipment spending from 2023 to 2030, while LCD is forecast at 21% and Micro-OLED at 3%. 

According to Counterpoint Research’s Quarterly Display Capex and Equipment Market Share Report, Q2 2026, total global display equipment spending in 2026 is projected to increase 53% YoY. Within this, both OLED and LCD are expected to grow by 77% and 1% YoY, respectively. Key drivers for 2026 include Visionox V5, CSOT t8, and Tianma TM18 Phase 3-1 for OLED, with Tianma TM19 Phase 3 dominating the LCD.

Furthermore, each panel maker has finalized its OLED pixel formation method. Visionox is currently mass-producing smartwatches at Gen 6 V3 using photo patterning instead of fine metal mask (FMM) deposition, while CSOT plans to mass-produce NBPCs and monitors using RGB inkjet technology at its t5 tools.

Although OLED pixel formation methods other than FMM currently suffer from low yields, they are expected to improve as mass production continues. Additionally, Samsung Display and LG Display are also in the process of developing photo-patterning technologies. 

HKC is expected to launch its IPO around June, with the resulting proceeds anticipated to fund Gen 6 OLED investments. While HKC primarily produces LCD TVs at its Gen 8.6 fab, its Gen 6 LCD investment has been confirmed, utilizing equipment relocated from JDI's Mobara fab in Japan along with some additional new tools.
