eSIM platforms processed nearly half a billion transactions in 2024 across consumer and IoT segments.
Seoul, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, London, New Delhi, San Diego, Taipei, Tokyo – February 26, 2025
Thales, G+D and IDEMIA have emerged as ‘Pacesetters’ in the Global eSIM Provisioning CORE (COmpetitive, Ranking, and Evaluation) evaluation, according to the 2025 edition of Counterpoint Research’s Global eSIM Landscape report.
Commenting on the eSIM provisioning rankings and the competitive landscape, Senior Research Analyst Varun Gupta said, “In 2024, eSIM platforms processed close to half a billion transactions across consumer and IoT segments, driven by increasing eSIM adoption in consumer devices and the rising demand for travel eSIMs. Emerging use cases, such as partnerships with travel platforms and fintech companies, are opening new opportunities for operators. With eSIM availability expanding across more countries, operators continued deploying SM-DP+ platforms, spurred by OEMs like Apple, which introduced eSIM-only models, including the latest iPad Pro, Air, and Mini. Meanwhile, renewed demand for SM-DP platforms (M2M eSIM) is fueling IoT growth, supported by lower operational costs and a maturing ecosystem. The new GSMA IoT eSIM standard is nearing implementation, with platform vendors collaborating with key stakeholders on deployments and PoCs. This growing enthusiasm is expected to accelerate the global adoption of eSIM and iSIM in IoT.”
Gupta added, “We have analyzed and evaluated key companies in the eSIM value chain using our proprietary CORE framework, which maps active players based on their capabilities and execution. Given the dynamic nature of the market, our evaluation criteria have evolved to include additional factors such as SGP.31/.32 certification and readiness, platform reliability, and pricing models. The capability assessment considers factors like platform features, compliance, deployment models, time to market, and profile customization capabilities. Meanwhile, the ecosystem evaluation includes criteria such as geographical reach, financial performance, service support, partnerships, active eSIM base, platform deployments, and transaction volumes.”
Commenting on the research findings, Research Director Mohit Agarwal said, “Thales, G+D, and IDEMIA have once again emerged as ‘Pacesetters’ in the eSIM Provisioning ranking, maintaining their leadership for the fifth consecutive year. These companies have demonstrated excellence across both capability and ecosystem parameters.”
Agarwal further added, “Thales secured the top spot with its well-rounded platform capabilities, while G+D retained its leadership in execution, narrowly surpassing Thales in terms of deployments and transaction volumes. IDEMIA displayed the highest growth in deployments, achieving the maximum number of platform rollouts in a single year, further strengthening its market presence.”
Trasna, Valid, 1Global, RedTea Mobile, Eastcompeace, Kigen, and Tata Communications have been recognized as ‘Leaders’ in the latest eSIM Provisioning rankings. These players have experienced significant growth in transaction volumes and market presence. Eastcompeace made a major leap this year, moving into the Leader quadrant for the first time, while RedTea Mobile demonstrated one of the highest improvements in this year’s evaluation. Kigen reinforced its leadership in the new IoT eSIM standard (SGP .31/.32), becoming one of the first platforms to achieve full GSMA certification.
Teal, 10T Tech, Nordic eSIM, Invigo, Motive, 1oT, Simartis, and Achelos were named ‘Challengers’, offering strong platforms but with limited market reach. 10T Tech, Motive, and Nordic eSIM stood out for their innovative solutions, while Simartis and Achelos debuted in this category. Agarwal added, “Over time, players in the Challenger category are expected to transition into the Leaders quadrant as they expand their market presence and enhance their offerings.”
Several companies were placed in the ‘Niche’ category due to their specialized business models or regional focus, such as HPE, which enables eSIM services rather than offering provisioning directly.
The rankings highlight the dynamic growth of eSIM, with both established players and emerging innovators shaping the market’s future.
