China Doesn't Need to Beat Claude. It Needs to Be Second
Overview
Chinese open-weight AI models are moving beyond the “cheap alternative” narrative and becoming a credible second choice for developers globally. Models such as DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen and GLM are increasingly being integrated into real production workloads, particularly coding, agentic and long-context applications.
This report examines how this shift is changing AI model economics, developer behavior and the competitive landscape. As developers increasingly route different tasks to different models based on capability, cost and flexibility, the industry is moving from a single-model paradigm toward a multi-model world.
What the Full Report Will Cover
- Global adoption of Chinese open models
- Developer switching and model routing
- Cost and task economics
- Key use cases and substitution potential
- Impact on the global AI ecosystem
