Overview:
The Counterpoint Research 2026 Africa AI Cities Index is a study of the adoption of the use of AI in the largest 10 metropolitan areas on the continent – and has ranked Cape Town number one, followed by Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi and Tunis. Counterpoint analyzed over 300 initiatives in the private and public sectors, strength of communications infrastructure, datacenter and supercomputing initiatives, university output and strength of the startup ecosystem among other factors. The study also analyzes key tech vendors enabling AI cities, explores the use of AI in industry verticals such as the public sector, healthcare and transportation.
