Overview: This report explores how 4D imaging radar is becoming a pivotal sensor technology in the race toward scalable vehicle autonomy. As autonomous driving systems transition from pilot projects to real-world deployment, the need for high-performance, all-weather perception is growing. 4D imaging radar offers a strong complement to existing sensor stacks—delivering higher resolution than traditional radar and greater robustness than cameras, while avoiding some of LiDAR’s weather and lighting limitations. Automakers and Tier-1s are increasingly partnering with startups to co-develop next-generation radar, though adoption is still limited by high cost, larger form factors, and an immature supply chain. This report examines its technical strengths, current use cases, and the partnerships driving future deployment.
