Galaxy S26 Momentum Helps Samsung’s YoY Growth in Three Consecutive Weeks of March

April 20, 2026
  • Samsung’s cumulative smartphone sales from Week 1 to Week 13 of 2026 decreased by 6% YoY due to the delayed launch of the Galaxy S26 series.
  • Thanks to the more pronounced launch uplift from the Galaxy S26 series during the first three weeks when compared to its predecessor, Samsung’s YoY decline has been narrowing since Week 11, when the new series was launched.
  • As 2026 is expected to be one of the most challenging years for the smartphone market, the S26 series, particularly the Ultra model, will play a critical role in helping Samsung defend its sales and profitability and sustain premium demand amid a global market downturn.

Samsung’s cumulative weekly sales from Week 1 to Week 13 of 2026 decreased by 6% compared to the same period last year, according to Counterpoint Research’s Global Smartphone Weekly Sales Tracker. Due to the delayed launch of the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung also experienced a double-digit YoY decline. However, with the launch of the new series in Week 11 (March 8 to March 14), the extent of the YoY decline has been narrowing. Even though overall global smartphone demand slowed somewhat at the time of the Galaxy S26 launch, Samsung experienced a more pronounced launch uplift during the first three weeks compared to the S25 launch.

Note: Week 1 of 2025 corresponds to Dec 29, 2024 – Jan 4, 2025 and Week 1 of 2026 corresponds to Dec 28, 2025 – Jan 3, 2026, so that each week consists of 7 days.

By Week 10 of 2026, the week prior to the Galaxy S26 launch, Samsung’s weekly sales had dropped to their lowest point of the period and sat well under the 2025 trajectory, illustrating how soft demand had become just before the S26 launch. The S26 launch window in Weeks 11 to 13 reversed this downswing, with 2026 volumes rebounding strongly, close to 2025 levels.

Samsung’s weekly smartphone sales, which had been significantly below last year’s level up until just before the S26 launch, successfully reversed into YoY growth following the launch of the S26.

Associate Director Sujeong Lim said, “Cumulative Samsung smartphone sales during the first three weeks of the Galaxy S26 series launch were 4% higher than those of the Galaxy S25 series during the same period in 2025. It is particularly impressive that double-digit growth was recorded in strategic markets for Samsung flagships, such as the US and Western Europe. Lim also noted: “In the US, the S26 series’ sales during this period were as much as 29% higher YoY compared to the S25 series, a strong initial performance despite the price increase, which raises expectations for the months ahead.”
