"Following the launch of ultra-wide band (UWB) chips for smartphones, NXP Semiconductor has announced UWB chips for cars, which will enable smartphones to act as a key for the car. UWB is considered better than other radio technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc as it delivers accurate, real-time and secured localization capabilities. NXP is working with BMW Group to set the required standardization for UWB. UWB will need extra memory including RAM and Flash (NOR). Beyond keyless entry, potential applications include trackers, autonomous valet parking, home applications (smart speaker, lightning and smart locker, industrial, IoT and robotics etc). As a central utility device for almost every user, targeting smartphones will speed-up adoption as the user base is already there." – Karn Chauhan
