- Global smartphone shipments grew by a modest 2% YoY in Q4 2019
- The top three brands, Samsung, Huawei and Apple, captured more than 50% of the smartphone market, with the rest of the market left for hundreds of other brands to compete fiercely
- Overall LTE shipments declined at 4% YoY as compared to 2% YoY in Q3 2019 mainly due to increased 5G shipments in US, Europe, China and Korea
- 5G smartphones contributed to 1% of global smartphone shipments in 2019. 2020 is expected to be the breakout year, with 5G smartphones poised to grow to around 18% of total global smartphone shipment volumes in 2020
