"Intel this year pulled out of 5G baseband, creating an opportunity for MediaTek in the PC segment. Intel CPU's will now support Mediatek’s 5G baseband. Only Qualcomm was offering LTE modems for PC's and also leading the way to 5G laptops. This gives Intel an opportunity to provide an always-connected PC (ACPC).
The main rival here is Qualcomm, which is developing ARM-based ACPCs that have significant advantages in terms of power consumption, but application compatibility is limited due to the ARM architecture. Intel still has time to develop solutions that can challenge ARM-based chips. If the application ecosystem matures for ARM-based ACPC, Qualcomm will likely take a significant share of the ACPC market. Further with the 5G, the use of cloud-based apps will further boost the ARM-based ACPC ecosystem." – Satyajit Sinha
