"Apple is planning to order a batch of OLEDs from BOE in 2021. The rumor comes from sources in South Korea and claims that Apple could be looking to order some 45 million OLED panels from BOE, intended for use in the 2021 iPhone devices. This would make BOE Apple's second largest supplier of OLED panels with Samsung (SDC) continuing to be the largest supplier, LGD would be relegated to third and JDI would supply small OLED screens, catering to the Apple watch.
Impact:
Impact:
- It is reported that Huawei simplified the supplier verification process for Visionox and CSOT after BOE was linked with Apple as an OLED supplier. OLED products from Visionox and CSOT have passed Huawei’s quality tests.
- If BOE can manage to become the OLED supplier for iPhone, Apple's OLED order to SDC will likely decrease from 230 million units in 2019 to 150 million units in 2021.
- SDC's current OLED orders have not utilized its full production capacity. It is reported that there are several vacant OLED production lines in SDC’s factories although it still has expansion plans. Order-cut from Apple is likely to curb SDC's OLED expansion plan." – Flora Tang
