US smartphone volumes were up 5% year-on-year (YoY) and flat month-on-month (MoM) during the month of May. 2Q19 smartphone sales are trending to be almost identical to 2Q18. US consumer confidence, despite the ongoing scuffle with China and overhang of tariffs, remains solid. Subscribers are not holding back on purchases due to the macroeconomic conditions. In addition, initial sell through of 5G devices has been solid. Counterpoint surveys show sales are very distributed through the nation and not concentrated on initial rollout metros.
