Insights on the global smartphone market in June 2023:
Global smartphone sales grew MoM in June 2023, driven largely by growth in China, owing to the ‘618’ e-commerce festival, which is expected to offset seasonal declines in other regions. Global smartphone shipments also grew marginally MoM but was below sell-through as OEMs were in inventory correction mode as the quarter came to an end.
Among key OEMs, Samsung continued to lead the smartphone market despite a third consecutive MoM sales decline, owing to seasonal demand slowdown across its key markets. Apple’s global sales grew MoM in June, benefitting from strong sales during China’s “618” festival. Apple reached its highest ever Q2 share globally and in multiple regions. HONOR was the fastest growing top ten OEM in June, owing to the ‘618’ festival in China and continuing rapid expansion in its new focus markets, like Europe & Middle East.
Smartphone sales grew MoM across most price bands in June, driven largely by the ‘618’ e-commerce festival in China. The mid-tier pricebands, i.e., $300-$599 and $200-$299 were the fastest growing price bands in June, largely due to their exposure to the China market. The premium segment (≥$600) was the only priceband to record YoY growth in June, with the ultra-premium price band (≥$800) growing fastest.
