Quantum Computing – Not Yet Ready For Prime Time

Quantum computers offer the potential to solve unimaginably large and complex computer problems that traditional digital computers will never be able to address. Although once thought of as an impossible technology (due to the complexity of harnessing the intricate power of quantum mechanics coupled with the fact that they must be housed in highly unconventional environments), tech companies around the world are now engaged in a technology race to develop the first general-purpose commercial quantum computer.

This report provides an overview of the key principles of quantum computing highlighting the capabilities and achievements of the latest quantum computers developed by big tech companies such as IBM, Google and Microsoft, and discusses the key challenges that must be overcome before the first commercial quantum computer is launched.

An Interview with Sophia

Counterpoint was able to interview Sophia, a humanoid robot made by Hanson Robotics. While Sophia is unlikely to pass the Turing Test, yet, humanoid robots will likely find application in multiple roles. The first segments likely to see demand will include: Elder Care, Education and Sales and Marketing.

Global Connected Car Market (2013 – 2022)

* This report is originally published in IoT report service.

About the Report:

The report provides a country-level and OEM level information of total passenger car and connected car shipments (with embedded connectivity). The data provides historical figures as well as the forecast during 2013-2022.

Market Overview:

The global connected cars market is expected to grow 270% by 2022 with more than 125 million connected passenger cars with embedded connectivity to be shipped during 2018-2022. In terms of number of units, the market will be primarily driven by EU’s eCall mandate and rising adoption in China. In Europe, major car consuming economies such as Germany, UK, and France will provide the major thrust to the market.

Among OEMs, General Motors is leading the market in terms of number of shipments, followed by BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz, respectively. The connectivity platforms such as GM’s OnStar, BMW’s Connected Drive and Audi Connect are offering various services while creating new revenue streams and bridging the gap to stay connected with the consumers. In terms of connectivity, the market is aligned towards 2G/3G networks as of now, however, it is moving swiftly towards 4G LTE connectivity and we expect 4G LTE network to account for nearly 90% of connected passenger cars with embedded connectivity by 2022.
