Overview:
India’s smartphone market registered its first ever Q1 decline in Q1 2022, registered 1% YoY decline. The component issues were a major reason for this decline and affected almost all the brands. The Chinese brands held a 74% share in Q1 2022. Xiaomi led the market with a 23% share, followed by Samsung, realme, vivo and OPPO. According to our latest forecast, we believe the India smartphone market will cross 191 million units in 2022. High replacement demand, 5G boom as well as increased consumer spending will drive the shipments.
The online shipment share grew 10% YoY in Q1 2022. Omicron wave during first month of quarter favored online channels. Also, offline brands like vivo and OPPO are now launching online heavy models to increase their presence in online space. However, offline channels are expected to bounce back in 2022. realme led the online smartphone market with 2% share, followed closely by Xiaomi at 24% and Samsung at 16%. According to our latest forecast, we believe offline channels will capture 55% shipment share in 2022.
