Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses Poised to Accelerate India’s Smart Eyewear Market

1
August 12, 2025
  • The Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses officially launched in India in May 2025 through a partnership with Titan Eyewear. This marks Meta’s hardware debut in the Indian market.
  • India’s smart glasses market remains in its early stages, with few active players and limited adoption. Catalysed by Meta’s entry and a rising appetite for AI-integrated lifestyle tech, India’s smart glasses shipments are expected to grow over 400% YoY in 2025.
  • We believe Meta and Luxottica’s decision to expand into the Indian market is driven by a combination of factors – India’s large mobile user base, widespread English proficiency, a growing community of tech-savvy consumers, and an extended summer season.
  • Priced between INR 29,999 (~USD 342) and INR 35,700 (~USD 407), the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses are aimed at affluent early adopters.

In May 2025, Meta expanded the official availability of the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses to India, Mexico and the UAE. Among these, India stands out as a strategic market for Ray-Ban Meta’s global expansion, given its large mobile user base, untapped potential, widespread English proficiency, a growing community of tech-savvy consumers, and an extended summer season.

While the glasses are available online via Ray-Ban.com, Ray-Ban Meta has also partnered with Titan Eyewear, India’s leading optical retail chain, which operates over 860 stores across 384 cities and towns. Under this partnership, the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses have been made available at more than 50 select Titan Eye+ stores starting in mid-May, with the rollout continuing to expand across the country.

The glasses are priced between INR 29,900 and INR 35,700, depending on the selected style and lens configuration. With this relatively premium pricing, Meta’s product positioning clearly targets affluent, fashion-forward early adopters seeking innovation and elevated lifestyle experiences.

Available variants in the initial launch stage include Wayfarer in Matte Black and Shiny Black, and Skyler in Chalky Gray and Shiny Black. A range of lens options is also available, such as clear lenses with blue light filter, Polarized, Transitions, and the iconic Ray-Ban G-15 Green lens.

The smart glasses currently support live translation for English, French, Italian and Spanish, even when users are offline. Notably, Meta has yet to add support for Indian languages.

Our observations and industry checks reveal that the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses have successfully captured the attention of India’s tech-savvy consumers, style-conscious buyers and premium eyewear users at launch. This traction has been driven by a well-executed integrated marketing strategy, ranging from in-store displays at offline eyewear retailers to celebrity endorsements and collaborations with numerous internet influencers. Localized marketing campaigns, particularly in major metros such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, further amplified awareness. Initial feedback from retail partners points to healthy footfall and strong demand for the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses in India.

Why India?

India’s smart glasses market is still in the early stages of development, with annual shipments remaining below 20,000 units over the past three years.

Titan, along with its sub-brand Fastrack, has been a frontrunner in India’s smart glasses space, launching its first-generation smart audio glasses, the Titan EyeX 1.0, in January 2022 (starting at INR 9,999), followed by the Titan EyeX 2.0 in August 2023 (starting at INR 2,000/ ~USD 23 ). These models dominated the Indian smart glasses segment from 2022 to 2024. Other brands in the market included Noise, Jlabs, OAKTER and OHO Sunshine. However, the competitive landscape remained relatively small and fragmented until the entry of the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses in 2025.

According to our research, strong market demand for the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses is expected to increase India’s smart glasses shipments by over 400% YoY in 2025. That said, the full potential of India’s smart glasses market remains largely untapped. Beyond supply-side stimulation, we also see significant potential for demand-side expansion, driven by the following factors:

  • India’s vast and digitally engaged mobile phone consumer base

India is home to over 830 million smartphone users as of 2025, making it the world’s second-largest mobile phone market. Mobile internet penetration stands at over 75%, driven largely by affordable smartphones and inexpensive data plans. This digitally native population, especially among millennials and Gen Z, is highly comfortable engaging with AI-powered services on their devices. Such an ecosystem provides a fertile ground for launching smart eyewear that integrates seamlessly with mobile platforms and social media.

  • Widespread English proficiency facilitates product adoption

India has one of the largest English-speaking populations globally – over 260 million, many of whom use English as a primary or secondary language in urban and semi-urban areas. Since Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses currently support voice commands and AI interactions primarily in English, this linguistic compatibility reduces the barrier to adoption and accelerates consumer education. Unlike markets where extensive language localization is necessary, India offers a relatively straightforward launch environment for English-first AI wearables.

  • Rapidly expanding tech-savvy consumer demographic

India’s growing middle class and youthful population (with a median age of around 28 years) are increasingly becoming technology-oriented and trend-conscious. A significant segment – urban professionals, content creators and social media enthusiasts – seeks products that combine fashion with cutting-edge technology. AI glasses align perfectly with this “fashion-tech” trend. This makes India a strategic market for smart glass OEMs’ global expansion and a testing ground for AI wearable adoption.

  • Prolonged summer season fuels demand for stylish, functional eyewear

India experiences long periods of intense sunlight, with the summer lasting 8-9 months in many regions. The country’s large and growing sunglasses market reflects the strong consumer demand for sun protection combined with style. Ray-Ban is already an iconic brand in India’s premium sunglasses segment, and integrating Meta’s AI technology adds new functional value. This combination of necessity and lifestyle appeal creates an ideal market environment for smart sunglasses powered by AI.

Outlook

Building on the momentum generated by the global success of Ray-Ban Meta, several new OEMs, such as Phonic (backed by Lenskart), Fireboltt, Focally and QWR, have entered the Indian smart glasses market starting in 2025. Recently, Qualcomm, the leading provider of XR and AI glasses SoCs, hosted the Snapdragon XR Day in India, announcing its commitment to advancing the country’s spatial computing ecosystem. As part of this initiative, Qualcomm revealed partnerships aimed at powering AI-enabled smart eyewear for Indian consumers, including a collaboration with Lenskart to leverage Snapdragon chipsets.

By 2026, India’s smart eyewear market is expected to reach a pivotal turning point – ushering in a competitive ‘gold rush’ phase driven by rising brand entries, accelerated innovation, and deeper integration of AI-driven features. As competition intensifies and consumer adoption expands, the market is poised for rapid transformation.
