"Huawei has become high profile in the UK over the last few weeks, thanks to constant references to its potential role in the development of 5G networks, the US's urging that it should be banned, and leaks from a high-level government security committee that hit the headlines repeatedly over several days. The upshot is that Huawei's name is now much better known. Huawei is a pawn in a political struggle between the US and China, which is playing out among the US' intelligence allies. By influencing how other countries do or do not engage with Huawei, the US is leveraging its power in the negotiations. In the short term, additional publicity is proving positive for Huawei's business. However, there is the ever-present risk that it will suffer a ZTE-like limit on imports of US components and software – which would have a disastrous impact even if it is more vertically integrated than ZTE." – Peter Richardson
