"GM, Ford and Toyota have come together with SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) to establish “safety guiding principles to help inform standards development.” The group will be established as an Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium. The aim of the group is to help regulators and companies frame adequate protocols to enable and expedite the availability of autonomous cars on the road. Technology companies and startups are moving ahead of traditional car companies to create Level 4 autonomous vehicles. This consortium is an attempt by traditional players to create a lobby for influencing regulators and create rules in their favor. I suspect that more traditional car companies will be joining hands with this consortium." – Shobhit Srivastava
