Sell-in of handsets and smartphones were down following the weak performance of both China and India markets. In Europe, France and Germany showed some recovery in sell-through, but Italy and UK were still low. Japan and Korea recovered and grew a lot in March. While feature phones came back strongly in India and Africa.
Samsung recovered its market share by another percentage point. It did well at the entry level with J7 Pro and in the premium-tier with the Galaxy S8 series, following a price adjustment to accommodate the Galaxy S9. Apple’s iPhone 8 and X showed a downward trend, further reducing Apple’s market share by 2ppt globally. Entry-level smartphone share slightly increased after good performances from Xiaomi, Samsung and some of the local brands in India, SEA, and Africa markets.
