This report centres on recent happenings in the smartphone market in Lagos, Nigeria. Lagos is a city with a population of about 18 million people. The city is commonly regarded as the commercial centre of Nigeria and any changes in the trend of mobile phone retail within the city can be taken either as a reflection of the trend all over the country or a leading indicator of how the country will respond.
This report was compiled based on the on-the-spot channel checks we conducted in retail outlets of the following mobile phone operators: MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Visafone (CDMA operator) and Glo Mobile Communications Company. The report also include findings noted when we conducted channel checks on mobile phone shops owned by independent vendors and retailers who are a substantial part of the mobile phone distribution landscape in Nigeria...
