"During August, a traditionally slow month for car sales in the UK, the Model 3 sold more than 2,000 units, propelling it to third place overall just behind the VW Golf and Ford Fiesta. The position is flattering because a right-hand drive version has not been available for a long time and therefore August’s sales include fulfillment of back-orders. But despite the strong sales growth, pure EVs still only made up 1.1% of UK car sales in the year to date. The Tesla Model 3 has also fared well in Europe where it was the best selling EV in the first six months of the year, ahead of the Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf. But sales in recent months in countries like Italy and Germany have dropped off quite sharply, with Italy only registering 71 units to keep the Model 3 at the 493rd position in the month. Nevertheless, EV sales were up 88% in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018." - Peter Richardson
