September handset sell through improved as demand grew 4% compared to last month but annual growth was barely above zero. US and European markets were robust but China was still a bit weak in spite of heavy sell-in.
Smartphones are now almost 62% of the market. Android share is 77% as iOS rebounds to 14% after a weaker August and Windows Phone flat at below 5% share.
Samsung’s share falls as it gives ground to Apple in the $400+ premium market with tough competition from local smartphone brands in sub $150 price bands in some markets such as China & India. Nokia recovers slightly as the price cut and aggressive sell through activities work out especially in feature phones. Apple doubles share in US, Japan and China’s overall handset market after getting into the ‘great dip’ pattern in a month prior to the new iPhone launch month...
