"Claro Brazil announced that it will roll out eSIM support for smartphones and smartwatches from March 29th. It is the first carrier in Brazil and LATAM to kick off this service. Vivo (Telefonica Brazil) also announced, in the same week, that it will support eSIM, but only for smartwatches. iPhone XS and iPhone XR have both been launched in Brazil in November 2018. However, their eSIM versions were not working until now. Chile will be the second country to launch eSIM services. Movistar Chile announced at MWC 2019 that it would launch eSIM services in March. On March 29th, it announced that eSIM is available in only one carrier store. So far, no other carrier in LATAM has announced a clear plan for eSIMs. However, Mexico could soon launch eSIMs as it is a leading market for iPhones in LATAM." - Tina Lu
