Apple exceeded the 50% of US smartphone installed base for the first time in Q4 2021

This report provides an analysis of the US Smartphone installed base by brand, model, and features.

  • Apple achieved the highest share of US smartphone installed base ever. A consecutive success of two 5G smartphone series, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, was the main driver. Introducing new technology like 5G helped the brand to achieve the highest share by stimulating demand for early replacement.

  • Samsung was alone a contender against Apple, having only 4 models in the top 20 models of the installed base in Q4 2021. Since Galaxy Note 20 Ultra ranked in the top 20 in Q3 2021, any premium model from this brand did not rank in the top 20 in Q4 2021.

  • Apple leads to introduce new technology to the US market, OLED display and multiple camera adoption are widely accepted by the market after Apple adopt these technologies, but high pixel resolution spec is not.
