"During the iPhone 11 launch event, Apple confirmed that Apple Arcade - Apple's mobile and Mac gaming subscription service - will release on September 19, priced at just US$4.99 per month for unlimited access to over 100 exclusive games. The service fee looks quite cheap as Apple Arcade's automatic Family Sharing plan allows for up to six family members to share the same subscription for just one monthly fee. Apple's push into gaming can be explained as part of its effort to expand the media/content business amid slowing growth in the global smartphone market. It will be a compelling reason to keep its loyal customers tied up in Apple's ecosystem by giving exclusive access to video gaming experiences through Apple's devices. As Apple device users tend to spend more on mobile app purchases/subscriptions than Android phone users, Apple can drive the subscription service model as a new growth engine contributing to its earnings significantly in the future." - Liz Lee
