Overview:
India’s smartphone shipments declined 3% YoY to cross 14.5 million units in Jul 2021. However, the market grew 1% MoM during the month. The yearly decline can be attributed to the high pent-up demand that was witnessed during the last year post lockdown. According to our recent retail surveys, the offline channels are witnessing high consumer demand. Also, the online channels have witnessed high demand during July 2021. Amazon hosted its “Prime Day” sale in July which drove the shipments on Amazon.
India smartphone manufacturers are experiencing component shortage issues as some 4G chipsets are in shortage. Also, the prices of some key components have risen which has impacted the prices of the active models. However, the OEMs are maintaining a healthy production run-rate in the past few months.
