Global Smartphone ODM Tracker and Report - H2 2022

0
Mar 22, 2023

Overview: Outsourced manufacturing has been a significant feature of the consumer electronics industry and handset market for many years. The rationale behind this is that little value is added by conducting exclusive in-house production. Nowadays, very few handset manufacturers conduct all their manufacturing in-house, with many, such as Apple, outsourcing it entirely. Overall global ODM/IDH smartphone shipments fell 5% YoY in 2022 due to economic pressures and weaker demand from China and Europe. However, the share of outsourced designed shipments continued to rise during the year. This report tracks trends in global smartphone ODM-OEM relationships, highlights key activities in the sector, identifies drivers and future developments of the ODM sector and provides observations on regional developments regarding smart device manufacturing in general.
