Our Global Consulting Director Vinay Piparsania will be speaking at the Auto Tech Review webinar on April 23rd 2020 at 3-4 PM IST. The topic of the webinar is "Recharging India’s electric mobility ambition one year into the FAME II Scheme".

About the webinar:

The government’s allocation of Rs 10,000 cr under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME) II scheme, which will be implemented over a period of three years, came into effect from April 1, 2019. The FAME II scheme plans to support 10 lakh electric two-wheelers, five lakh three-wheelers (meant for public transportation), 55,000 four-wheelers (meant for public transportation) and 7,000 buses. FAME II also envisages a more holistic growth of the industry by providing support for essential building blocks like charging infrastructure, R&D and far improved manufacturing indigenisation.

Unfortunately, the first year under the FAME II scheme has been marred with poor planning and undesired results. Add to that the unforeseen misery arising out of the COVID-19 outbreak, and the subsequent lockdown.

  • What can the government and the industry do to recharge the electric mobility sector in the country?
  • What sort of long-term impact is the economic slowdown likely to have in the sector?
  • Where are the pockets of innovation for the industry to focus on?
