We attended the Snapdragon Summit 2023 in Hawaii, where we got to chat with Chris Patrick, SVP and GM of Mobile Handset at Qualcomm. Chris spoke about Qualcomm's flagship product, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, emphasizing its role as the Titan of on-device intelligence. He also explained the significance of AI and gaming features, highlighting a 98% increase in AI performance and introducing a groundbreaking gaming feature called “Global Illumination”. The conversation also delves into the redesign of the neural processing unit (NPU) for improved AI efficiency and the integration of Llama 2, a language model, for on-device AI applications, which can be used even in airplane mode. Chris also acknowledged the challenges in the current economic climate but expresses confidence in people's continued investment in smartphones.
