Six of Top 10 ≥6000mAh Battery Capacity Smartphones Featured Silicon Carbon in January 2026 as Chinese OEMs Dominated

The average global smartphone battery capacity reached 5291mAh in January 2026, increasing by around 400mAh YoY, the biggest YoY hike since December 2021, according to Counterpoint Research’s Global Handset Model Sales Tracker. This growth was largely driven by Chinese OEMs which are using bigger batteries as a clear, easy-to-communicate upgrade, while also addressing battery life as a key consumer purchase factor.
At the same time, the shift to silicon-carbon (SiC) batteries is allowing brands to increase capacity without making devices thicker or heavier, accelerating the move toward higher-capacity smartphones. Consequently, smartphones with ≥6000mAh batteries contributed for 29% of global smartphone sales in January 2026, up sharply from just 10% in January 2025.
Chinese OEMs including vivo, Xiaomi, OPPO and HONOR are leading this transition, capturing all spots in the top 10 best-selling ≥6000mAh smartphone list in January 2026. Six of these models are powered by SiC battery technology, highlighting its growing adoption.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 15C 4G was the best-selling smartphone in the ≥6000mAh segment, capturing a 3.6% sales share, driven by strong affordability and wide global availability. Xiaomi further strengthened its position with two additional models, the Redmi 15 4G and Redmi 15 5G, highlighting a portfolio-led strategy to scale in this segment. Meanwhile, the HONOR X70 5G featured the highest battery capacity at 8300mAh, supported by its third-generation Qinghai Lake battery technology and 80W fast charging for both wired and wireless use.
Commenting on regional availability and variance, Senior Analyst Harshit Rastogi said, “Notably, six of top 10 best-selling smartphone in the ≥6000mAh segment are exclusive to China, underscoring both the region’s rapid advances in battery technology and the brand strategy to introduce higher‑capacity batteries in their home market first. Global regulations on battery size also play a role, limiting how quickly similar capacities can be brought to global markets, while many OEMs outside China continue to wait for the technology to mature or explore alternatives such as solid‑state batteries. As a result, China has opened a lead of over 1000mAh in average battery capacity compared to the rest of the world.”
On outlook, Senior Analyst Karn Chauhan said, “Memory shortages are expected to make 2026 one of the weakest years for the smartphone market, with shipments declining around 12% YoY, while also driving a structural rise in BOM costs. This will pressure OEMs to balance costs, margins and volumes, leading to portfolio streamlining and tighter spec optimization. Battery capacity will continue to increase, but at a slower pace, and SiC adoption is also likely to moderate in the near term, with the industry targeting key technical milestones in 2027, followed by mass-scale production in 2028.”
