"Taking cars by the steering wheel, the UK government is looking to stand by its commitment to have fully self-driving vehicles by 2021. Trials on roads are planned to commence by the end of the year. Responding to industry and public feedback, the government is also strengthening the code of practice for testing such automated vehicles (AVs), clarifying expectations for safety and responsibility during trials.
The public, however, may still not be ready, with research concluding that more than two-thirds of people, expressed anxiety on being picked up by a driverless car.
With the UK’s market for connected and automated vehicles estimated to be worth £52 billion by 2035, an urgency to introduce AVs, as the next generation of vehicles, could be understood." –Vinay Piparsania
